Charles P. Allen 2017 attackman Mitchell Broussard has been named the Heritage Lacrosse Boys’ Player of the Week. Broussard scored 12 goals in the final two games of the Capital Regional final, helping the Bedford, Nova Scotia program its first Nova Scotia High School Field Lacrosse League provincial championship on June 9th.

The Cheetahs defeated the JL Ilsley Judges, 9-4, in the final as Broussard scored six goals. Charles P. Allen had fallen in the finals each of the past two years.

Broussard, who plays for the Bedford Rock midget box lacrosse team, Team Nova Scotia box lacrosse and is trying out for his provincial field team, answered these questions:

What are your emotions on your team winning the Nova Scotia field championship?

Broussard: “I was ecstatic to help my school win our first NSHSFLL championship! I know the seniors on my team were there before and came just short, so I’m very glad to have helped them bring home the title finally!”

You scored 12 goals in 2 games – what/who helped you succeed?

Broussard: “I had excellent help from team mates such as Connor Aquanno, and Ryan Arsenault. They fed me, great passes, it was just up to me to put it in the net.”

What was the game-plan vs. the Judges in the finals and how did your team execute it?

Broussard: “Our game plan against J-L was to slow down on offence and take long possessions, and shut down their key offensive player, LSM Brett Himmalman did an excellent job shutting him down. It also helped that our goalie Ian Connors made some outstanding saves.”

How do your box skills help you in field lacrosse and where have your made the most improvements on the field?

Broussard: “My box game helped a lot in tight situations like when i dodged through the middle, I’m used to taking a hit from box. My coach Dominic Nolasco stressed that a good off hand made a good mid fielder so I practiced that most and that’s probably where I’ve made the most improvements in my field game.
