OTTAWA, ON, Thursday September 24, 2015 - CLA National Team Chairman Dean French and the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) are excited to confirm the official roster of the U-17 Team Canada.
The twenty Team Canada athletes will be competing in the official demonstration competition at the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Syracuse, NY at the Village Pavilion on Saturday September 26.
On August 9th and 10th, over 60 athletes attended a try-out camp in Clarington, ON. The try-out camp followed the conclusion of the 2015 Midget National Championships where players from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Manitoba and Quebec applied to participate in the camp.
"It was great to see a broad representation of our Member Associations in this first step in developing a U-17 national team program. This year we had applications from athletes from 7 different provinces and we are confident that should this program move forward that future camps will see representation from all Member Associations," said Johnny Mouradian.
Team Coordinator, Sean Allen, "The staff was exceptionally pleased with the overall level of talent from all regions; we believe it is a great indicator to the growth of the game Canada-wide."
Head Coach, Josh Sanderson summed up the entire coaching and management's sentiments with one brief comment, "Everyone involved is excited to be part of the Canadian U-17 indoor pilot program. We hope this is a stepping stone for a FIL U-17 championship in 2019."
Sanderson will be joined on the bench by assistant coaches Bruce Codd, Bill Greer, Brian Beisel and Jason Levesque and team coordinators Sean Allen, David Cleveley and Paul Lehmann.
