Liam McGrath named to U17 Team Canada

OTTAWA, ON – The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) is pleased to announce the list of players who have been selected to represent Canada at the U17 box lacrosse showcase against the Iroquois Nationals that will take place at during the 2017 Heritage Cup on October 21 in Hamilton, Ontario.
 
A total of 20 midget aged athletes from across the country, who were all members of their respective provincial teams at the 2017 CLA National Championship, were selected by the national team coaching staff, who were on-site to evaluate them throughout tournament.
 
Five provinces are represented on Team Canada’s roster, which includes nine players from Ontario, eight from Alberta, and one each from British Columbia, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
 
“We are confident this group of young men will represent Canada well,” said head coach Josh Sanderson, who captured gold at the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Prague and also played in the inaugural Heritage Cup in 2002.

The U17 game will be played at the FirstOntario Centre prior to the Canadian senior team’s showdown versus the U.S., making for a full evening of exciting lacrosse action. It will mark only the third international U17 event, with Canada and the Haudenosaunee having previously played one another at the 2013 Heritage Cup in Montreal, as well in a pair of games during the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship on the Onondaga Nation.
 
"This is a great opportunity for the young players selected to compete with and against some of the best under-17 lacrosse talent in the world,” said Dean French, Chairman, Team Canada. “The U17 game is also an opportunity for the national team program to emphasize that playing high level box lacrosse is key to developing the complete lacrosse player."
