Lacrosse Nova Scotia Communique on Canada Summer Games Announcement

2020-09-16

The Canada Summer Games are being postponed till 2022 but that won't stop LNS from continuing our Team Selection programming. Our athletes and coaches will benefit from this extension with a longer timeline to develop their skills.

It has just been announced that the Canada Summer Games 2021 is being postponed to 2022. Lacrosse Nova Scotia wants to reassure all the athletes currently in our Invitational Fall Program, that this announcement does not change the fundamental Canada Games Team Selection Policy that we have adopted. We will continue our Fall Program, as planned.

The safety of our athletes, coaches and administrators has always been our top priority so we support the decision made by the Canada Games Council.  It is disappointing but we will adapt our programs to accommodate.

We are very happy with our programs to date, and have had great feedback on them. Now, we will adjust our next stage programming around the pandemic timeline, our Return to Lacrosse Plan and the new Canada Games timeline . We have a great opportunity now to plan the next stage of our team selection program, the 'Training Camp', to better ensure that we select the very best athletes to our Canada Games teams. This delay will only make our program better and ensure the safety of all participants.

We do not know all the implications of this announcement, as yet, but there are meetings planned with Lacrosse Canada and our Provincial Sport Consultant in the coming days. We will plan to have Zoom meetings in the near future to update parents and athletes in our Invitational Program, once we have more concrete information. In the meantime, we will work hard to ensure that our athletes can continue to develop their skills safely, especially now when access to lacrosse is so limited.
