Sad News for the Lacrosse Community

2020-12-02

Lacrosse Nova Scotia is sharing the sad news that Wayne Finck, one of the founding fathers of lacrosse in NS, has passed away. Read More for details.

Wayne passed away on Sunday, November 29th, after a short illness.  He will be sadly missed by his wife, Peggie, and his children, Dan and Julie (a dedicated volunteer, coach and official, in our community), and his entire family.  His sister, Christine Christian, has also been a dedicated volunteer for Metro Minor Lacrosse League and his brothers have been lacrosse volunteers in other areas of the province.

Wayne will be missed by his 'second family', the lacrosse community in NS.  His playing days were legendary.  His impact on the sport in Nova Scotia cannot be measured.  Many of our core volunteers came to the sport because of Wayne's convincing 'recruitment'.  Many of our players came to the game because of his programming in schools and as part of Lacrosse Nova Scotia, Metro Minor Lacrosse League, Halifax Northwest Rebels Lacrosse Club, to only name a few organizations that Wayne was directly involved with.  He coached provincial teams, particularly Team NS female teams.  His role with LNS was specific to developing players, coaches (through certification) and officials.  He was a long-time lacrosse referee.  He was involved in all aspects of the game in NS and was a mentor to all.  He was a mainstay of the sport in our province and his quiet authority and measured approach epitomized sportsmanship at it's finest.

Rest in Peace, Wayne.
