For the first time, a Nova Scotian has been invited to selection camp for the Team Canada Senior Women’s Field Lacrosse Team.

At 17 years old, Hannah Kent has established herself as the best female lacrosse player in Nova Scotia history.

For the first time, a Nova Scotian has been invited to selection camp for the Team Canada Senior Women’s Field Lacrosse Team.

“I have dreamed of having the opportunity to represent my country, and it is an honour just to have the chance to compete with the top female Canadian lacrosse players,” Kent says. “I will be one of the youngest players at camp but, regardless of the outcome, I know it will be one of the best experiences of my life.”

Kent began her lacrosse career at age seven playing box lacrosse with her local minor club, the Eastern Shore Breakers. She fell in love with the sport instantly; what she didn’t know was the path this game would lead her down.

Kent represented Nova Scotia 10 times in national tournaments between the ages of seven and 18, captaining the team on multiple occasions. She represented Nova Scotia at nationals four times with the male box lacrosse program, four times with the female box lacrosse program, and an additional two times with the U19 female field lacrosse team.

“My favorite lacrosse memory was tying the First Nations team my second year with the provincial boys’ Bantam team. Team Nova Scotia has always looked up to that team, so it was an honour to tie them.”

Kent, with the support of her parents, made the decision at 13 to explore the game even further, leaving home in 2017 to attend Kent, a preparatory school in Connecticut, where she quickly established herself as an amazing athlete. She took up field lacrosse in her freshman year, and quickly became a standout player as team captain in her junior and senior years, an all-NEPSAC all-star in her sophomore and senior years and was a tri-varsity athlete, playing field lacrosse, field hockey and ice hockey.

Kent has completed the evaluation process for Team Canada and now awaits the results. She currently plays for the Connecticut Dodgers Field Lacrosse Team and has committed to D-1 Niagara University in the NCAA to play field lacrosse.

With her busy schedule and school and national commitments, Kent also finds time to give back to the next generation of Nova Scotia lacrosse players, playing with the Dartmouth Bandits’ female Junior box lacrosse team, helping coaching with the Eastern Shore Breakers and starting her own lacrosse training company, 902lax.

“I would tell up and comers, when you face adversities, to never give up! Take those times to challenge and push yourself. Focus on what you can work on to achieve your goal, on and off the field.”
