Lacrosse community members honoured at the 2013 RICOH Sport Awards! Click 'Read More' for more information on our award winners.

The Ricoh Sport Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors and volunteers from around the province – all of whom have contributed to sport in Nova Scotia. These individuals represent the best of amateur sport, not only by virtue of their athletic achievement but also through their dedication and commitment to sport.

Tonight the Ricoh Sport Awards will take place at the Halifax, Marriott Harbourfront Hotel where Lacrosse recipients will be celebrated and applauded for their contributions to growing the sport in our province

Lacrosse Nova Scotia is proud to announce the following recipients of the 2013 Sport Awards for Lacrosse in recognition of their contribution and achievements:

Lacrosse – Female Team Athlete of the Year

Teneal Perry

Teneal Perry scored 20 goals with the St. Margaret's Bay Storm who finished second overall in the Metro Minor Lacrosse League. As a captain of the Nova Scotia girls midget team, Perry led her team to double overtime in the bronze-medal game at the Canadian female box lacrosse championship in July.  She is now on scholarship playing lacrosse at Vermont Academy.

Lacrosse – Male Team Athlete of the Year

Andre LaLeune

The Nova Scotia junior A player of the year has a great attitude and work ethic. He was captain of his junior A team – which he led to a first-place finish - as well as the provincial team that went to Ontario for nationals and won gold in the Tier 2 division. He led the junior A league in scoring by a wide margin and was one of the top point scorers in the entire junior league.

Lacrosse – Coach of the Year

Glenn Dunbar

Glenn Dunbar is the epitome of a dedicated coach and last year won the East Coast Junior League championship for a third time as coach of the Southwest Hurricanes. In August, he won the Tier 2 trophy at the Founders Cup National Junior B Championship in Six Nations, Ontario, compiling the best record (4-2) yet achieved by a Nova Scotia team at this prestigious box lacrosse event.

Lacrosse – Volunteer of the Year

Lesley Dunn

Lesley Dunn got the lacrosse bug when Halifax hosted the world indoor lacrosse championship and the sport in the province is better for it. As VP of marketing, she started two important programs to increase participation in the game. One was to instruct Mi'kmaq craftsmen on the ritual of Iroquois stick-making and the other was the creation of a women's field lacrosse team that travelled to the U.S.

Lacrosse – Team of the Year

Nova Scotia Founders Cup Team

The Founders Cup Team competed at the national junior B championships in August 2012 and achieved its best finish yet at the one-week tournament that is held at Six Nations in Ontario. Team Nova Scotia was two goals away from breaking into the A pool. The team defeated British Columbia, something that no Nova Scotia team has done at this national tournament, and went on to win the Tier II gold medal.

Lacrosse – Official of the Year

Michael Melvin

Last year Michael Melvin asked if he could work at the national minor lacrosse championships. To get there, he had to impress evaluators at assessments throughout the year. His performance confirmed he had the skills and ability to attend this event. While in Ontario in August of 2012, Melvin officiated at many levels during the championship and proved that he was one of the top officials.
