Mi`kmaq Programs

Lacrosse Nova Scotia, in partnership with the Mi’kmaq Nova Scotia Canada Tripartite Forum Sports and Recreation committee, initiated Lacrosse programming in all Mi’kmaq communities in 2012 -2013. The programming was met with great success.   Try Lacrosse introduced the game to participants, created awareness and taught basic lacrosse skills.  Participants continued learning by participating in Regional Sessions held in Eskasoni, Waycobah, Pictou Landing, Millbrook, and Annapolis Valley. The Regional Sessions taught game and leadership skills, and helped develop leaders, confidence and the benefits of being active.

The overall objective is to further build on the previous work done in the communities. We will still continue to promote healthy active lifestyles through participation in the game; focus on the importance of teamwork, self-confidence, and self-esteem while developing skills necessary to the game. Programming in the Indigenous Communities in NS is being developed, particularly in light of the North American Indigenous Games being hosted in Halifax in July of 2020.  Stay tuned for further information.
