Member Organization Requirements Guide


This document serves as a guide outlining the requirements and procedures that Lacrosse Nova Scotia (LNS) member organizations must follow to ensure effective administrative operations and obtain sanctioning for each season. The requirements are summarized here; please refer to the LNS Governance documents for detailed information.

Categories of Membership:

  1. Member Club: An association of organized teams in a specified geographic area, administered by a structured board with formal administrative practices.
  2. Member League: An organization administered by a board, providing scheduling for a minimum of three teams.
  3. Member Team: A lacrosse team in a specific geographic area, administered independently by a structured board with formal administrative practices.

 

Membership Fees: 

Member organizations are required to pay membership fees each season upon invoicing by the LNS Executive Director (as per Regulation 5.1). The invoicing schedule and fee structure are as follows:

Box Lacrosse

  • Invoice Schedule: (Regulation 5.1)
    • Based on the current year’s registration numbers, in full, by May 1st of each box season; payment is due by May 15th.

Field Lacrosse:

  • Invoice Schedule: (Regulation 5.2)
    •  Based on the current year’s registration numbers, in full, by October 1st of each field season; payment is due by October 15th 

*Players also registered for box lacrosse will pay half the active member fee for their age category.

 

Associate Member Team

Sanctioning:

As per Regulations 13.5 (a) to (d), all active member organizations must apply for annual sanctioning. The required documents and information for this process include:

  1. LNSS Sanction Form
  2. Financial Statement: Previous year’s financial statement, formatted according to the Registry of Joint Stocks financial documents.
  3. Executive Members List: A list of Executive members, including contact details for the Commissioner/President, Treasurer, and Registrar.

All sanctioning documents must be submitted by April 15th for the Box season and August 15th for the Field season.

Additionally, to maintain sanctioning, all active member organizations must submit a complete list of their team staff, including coaches, managers, and trainers, to the VP Operations before the start of the game schedule. 

  • All team staff who are of the age of majority require Criminal Record Checks and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
  • All coaches and facilitators participating in any LNS-sanctioned event must complete and provide the following information, every time, for every event.

Every Head Coach / Assistant Coach / Facilitator must:

  • For those over 18 years of age
    • Have a valid Coach NCCP#
    • Have a proof of Background check in previous 3 years
    • Complete a Community Development Box lacrosse Certification course (classroom and on-floor)
    • Complete SafeSport program
  • For those between 16 and 18 years of age
  • For those under 16 years of age "junior coaches"
    • Complete SafeSport program
    • NOTE:  *Junior coaches can only help at practice(s), not on the bench*

Every Team Manager must:

  • Have a proof of Background check in previous 3 years
  • Complete SafeSport program

Every Trainer must:

  • Have a proof of Background check in previous 3 years
  • Complete SafeSport program
  • Trainer Certification

 

Affiliation Regulations:

The Executive Committee of Member Leagues must document and submit any changes to their league’s affiliation regulations to LNS for approval, as specified in Regulation 11.3(a). For any special modifications, a clear and detailed rationale must be provided and submitted to the Executive Director of LNS for review and approval.
